Note | Origin: General appearance of penwerk decoration (communication A. M. As-Vijvers, 2023) and calendar (use of Utrecht, with Jeronus, 17 August, in red), point to the southern part of Holland. Probably made for a canoness regular, in view of Augustine of Hippo’s special commemoration in the calendar (feasts on 28 August and 11 October in red), the Windesheim version of the responsories in the Office of the Dead (“Libera me domine de morte” instead of the Utrecht variant “Ego sum resurrectio”, cf. Kortweg 2013) and the Dutch rubrics of some prayers. |
